A white garden border planting scheme
A planting plan was created to suit the very formal layout of the garden. A mainly white colour palette was designed using plants inspired by the white garden at Sissinghurst. The central lawn area was returfed and set with stepping stones leading up to a seated area repeating the stone used in the patio. Romantic climbing Rosa New Dawn and fragrant evergreen jasmines surround the garden. Spheres of box add form and year round structure to this garden. To extend the flowering season, the borders are underplanted with ‘White Triumphator’ tulips interspersed with Tulipa ‘Queen of the Night’ to provide spring colour, before the herbaceous perennials begin to bloom over the summer months.
A shady border in the city
This planting plan was created for a client who wanted a lovely relaxing place to sit out in summer. Plants were thoughtfully selected to suit the shady and damp north and east facing border and create a harmonious arrangement of form, foliage and texture. The design provides year round interest which is important as the garden is visible from her studio. The beauty of a planting plan is that each plant has a specified place within the garden, which is perfect for the client as she wanted to plant the garden in stages.
